Training Collar Guide
I liked our backyard without a fence. So we decided to purchase a fenceless containment system. This one in particular is a wireless, Instant Fence. Which means a wire buried around the parameter of yard is not needed. The Instant Fence unit mounted on the wall transmits an adjustable frequency, up to a 90ft radius.
My husband and I travel at least once a month and Instant Fence is the very first thing we pack.
I programmed the units to match the yard, ie, one unit at the skinny part of the yard is on less than full power so it gives coverage in the yards and to the street, the other unit is at full power so it gives as much coverage as possible into the wide part of the yard. This one also covers the driveway on the front of the house.
I’ve never actually measured, but battery life in the collar seems to be a couple of months. The cost of batteries (#2032 watch-style) vary anywhere between and /pair. It all depends on where you buy them.
Out of the box, the gray plastic unit was completely assembled, with the exception of plugging in the power cord. The unit measures 9″ tall x 9″ deep x 9″ wide.
I want to stress this point. This is not a quick fix to containing your pet, you must take the time to properly train your dog so they are aware of the boundaries and consequences. A pet who is not trained and simply sent out with the collar on is in danger of over “correction” and may run out of the boundary area and keep running, not understanding why they are being corrected nor how to make it stop. Owners must understand the principals behind proper pet training when using any shock collar.
My teenage son took the collar out to the perimeter and put his hand in the collar to try it out because he was concerned about the shock, but found it to be a mild static kind of shock on his hand.
Another precaution, If you take your dog for rides in the car you must remember to turn off the unit or remove the collar before leaving the driveway.
