Teacup Chihuahua
There are several breeders, more specifically Chihuahua breeders, who have a serious grudge against the term Teacup Chihuahua. This is because of the fact that there is no such thing as a Teacup Chihuahua, at least no different breed of dog.
There are several versions of Chihuahua that are small, tiny or miniature which very well fit the description of a teacup Chihuahua. Some people take advantage of the fact that a Chihuahua is small in size, and especially if there is a small puppy in a litter, they mark it as a teacup Chihuahua or a toy or miniature Chihuahua in order to sell it at a higher price than normal.
Terms such as teacup Chihuahua or toy Chihuahua are very misleading for those who are looking for a Chihuahua as a pet for themselves and as a result of this misleading terminology buy the Chihuahua at a much higher price than it is worth. It is advise that prospective owner do their work and try to find out everything before going and adopting a Chihuahua puppy.
If on the other hand, you know a thing or two about dogs and Chihuahua’s in general, and you’re looking especially for a smaller “teacup Chihuahua” then the label shouldn’t be a problem for you, as long as you know what you’re getting.
A Chihuahua is a Chihuahua and whether it has been labeled as a teacup Chihuahua or not, it is going to have the same characteristics. If the dog is a pure bred, where was it bred and the size of the dog are some of the things that may come into the equation while making a choice, but it may not be the case always.
One thing that you can assured of is that in case you are getting a Chihuahua from a reputed and respected breeder, then you would not have to worry about negotiating the price down to something manageable just because you had been told that you are getting a teacup Chihuahua.
Going through a reputable breeder also means that you have less to worry on the conditions of how the Chihuahua puppy was bred, and what illnesses or genetic diseases it might have. The Chihuahua breeder will have all the information that you need.
You will also find that going through a reputable Chihuahua breeder also has better advantages than just those mentioned. For instance you will also be able to get the advice necessary on how to properly raise your Chihuahua, and if you have a small “teacup Chihuahua” then you can also get help and advice on how to handle this seemingly fragile little dog.
You and your puppy would get along just fine as long you understand that your teacup Chihuahua is not a different Chihuahua breed but only a smaller version of the breed.
