Secrets To Dog Training

My Dog Went Missing – What Can I Do?

If your dog is lost or missing, the time to act is now. Waiting several hours means losing valuable time to search for your beloved pet. This article focuses on a few things that you can do that will help you get your dog back much faster.

To begin with, you should, of course, search the area. Be as thorough as you can. Ideally, try to recruit other family members, friends, and neighbors. If they join the search party, you will have a much better chance. As you search for your dog, have everyone call his name cheerfully.

Of course, there is a chance you might not find your dog. If so, make fliers and signs. Make sure they are noticeable. The more noticeable the signs are, the better. Make sure to write “LOST DOG” in big black letters.

If possible you should offer a prize for clues leading to recovery of your dog. Most important information to include in the sign is a color photo, a simple description of your dog and your contacts.

Then distribute the fliers and signs: Cover a six mile radius from where your lost dog was last seen. Place signs at main intersections in the vicinity, and make sure they are secured to the poles with heavy duty glue or tape.

Public places are a good place to put signs, but also ask business owners whether you can put the signs up in their businesses.

Moreover, you should call all local animal shelters and animal clinics. If your dog is not there, still make it a point to describe your dog to them and leave your phone number in case your dog does end up there.

You can also visit the shelters. If so, bring along the poster and leave it there. And last but not least, if all of the above do not bring your dog home, here is one more tip: Run an advertisement in the local newspaper.

It is not unusual for pet owners to try to make people aware through newspapers. And local newspapers are often sympathetic and actually run the ad for free. So just ask about such a possibility and you might get lucky.
